Introducing Buenos Aires born Artist GUSTAVO REINOSO
During the Christmas holidays of 2022, while visiting my wife's family in Buenos Aires, I had the pleasure of meeting the talented artist Gustavo. Instantly captivated by his work, I found myself falling in love with his creations. Our connection was undeniable, and I am excited to share some of his pieces inspired by his first visit to New York City.

Born in Buenos Aires, 1969

I have been drawing since I can remember, it was always the first fun at my fingertips. As a kid, I used to spend many hours in my parents' delicatessen, in the popular “Urquiza” market, a magical place full of friends, unimaginable things and possibilities for fun. Being immersed head first in that temple of work and productivity awakened in me the idea of doing some odd job to pay for my vices.
My first job was as a “jasmine caretaker”. Just one afternoon guarding my florist friend's improvised stand was enough for me to sell all the merchandise to the friendly and tender cry of..."jasmines, madam." The pay couldn't be better, once a week we would go with my florist friend to the newsstand and I would choose my favorite. What a glorious moment! At the end of the season, I changed jobs, this time I deployed all my talent at the service of gastronomy… Waiter's assistant at the old Giuzzepin, a classic pizzeria next to the market.
My parents no longer found it funny about me working under an employer. That's how they hired me in the family business as a great provolone cheese grater. The pay wasn't as good as my previous jobs but being among my old people was priceless. One afternoon during a moment of relaxation I made one of my usual drawings, mixed media, pen on warehouse paper. A laborious drawing, a landscape of Urquiza, full of situations, even a kid selling jasmines. A joke distracted me, the joking client looked at me, looked closely at the drawing and told me... "How cute, there are many things I hadn't seen... Can you sell it to me? How much does it cost?" I sold that drawing and several others. Today, with the perspective that the years give, I can say that those first clients liked my drawings because they saw things that they did not know were there, to which they had not paid attention. Today I seek with my work to rescue that spirit, I try to record details, smells, situations, sounds, words, memories, those things that we may overlook or forget, trying not to lose the gaze of that kid who sold jasmines.
